“There’s something for everyone”— it’s a cliché that’s part of many promos, but for Yuvraj Patil, it’s an important selling feature for his new business model, Wok Box & Chubbs in Waterloo.
Both brands, based in Alberta, are now in Ontario, with two locations — Waterloo and Guelph — featuring both menus.
People may already be familiar with Wok Box, which has dozens of locations across Canada. Chubbs is relatively new; however, Patil said the additional menu featuring "flaming dawgs" and "fat shakes" was a big part of the decision to open the business along with his brother, Prithviraj.
The franchise close to Conestoga Mall presents a splice between a fresh Asian kitchen and comfort food poutinerie, with a large selection of rice and noodle bowls, hoagies, succulent subs dubbed chubbs, hot dogs, wings, tenders, a raft of apps and extras, as well as desserts such as deep-fried Oreos and donut holes.
Located close to the LRT line at 572 King St. N, next to Kelsey’s and behind Starbucks, Patil says he’s poised to serve commuters with options that are healthy, fresh, fast, and vast, catering to a wide demographic and all kinds of appetites, with all items available for dine-in and convenient takeout.
There are 15 signature rice and noodle boxes on the menu, but all are customizable.
“If someone doesn't like some vegetables, we’ll cook them with different vegetables,” Patil said. “We have four different types of noodles and 25 different sauces, so everything is possible.”
Global rice shortage be damned, in-person customers will get 50 per cent off all menu items as part of a grand opening celebration on Aug. 18 and 19. There will also be a draw for prizes, including a chance to win Chubbs for a year.
